Got a couple of nice little surprises in the mail today: my set of Japanese caving tools that I ordered from Carba-tec and the generous donation of some silky oak veneer from Duncan Gibbs.

This is such a lovely timber that it seems criminal to be using it for the water line on my half hull so I reckon I might have to lay the deck with it as well.

Thanks Duncan, BTW, it turned up all in one (two) pieces and still nice and flat.

I started doing a scale model of my boat once but didn't get far.

I've started gluing up the lifts Gary, and I plan to do a thread on the model when it's done.

I've just realised though, in my eagerness to start on this tonight that I've glued them upside down? Which makes no real difference other than it will be facing the opposite direction to the plans - ie facing left. Which is probably one of those Freudian things – ie turn left and head North…..:D

Some years back in a moment of exuberance I bought a model sailing ship kit, The Scottish Maid. I got as far as starting the planking before I realised I was over my depth skillwise. I also Have Payton's book on Boat modelling The Easy Way...needless to say I haven't built anything out of it yet:D Too busy building the real thing I guess.
Good luck with it and I look forward to the photos.
So your boat will leaving port rather than sailing back in:D

Thanks Gary, unfortunately my real thing is in the shed a couple of thousand k's away so this will have to do for now.
