After 1272 hours spread over 28 months not to mention $17,180 (including trailer) another Haven has appeared on the Globe. These photos were taken the day before a sucessful launch on April 4, 2003. My appologies for the quality of the photos, but I still think you can get the essence of the spirit of the vessel.
....hope this works.......

Fair winds. While there is nothing quite so like messing about in boats, actually building a boat, launching and sailing it. Well...

Delightful. I have followed your building process on the havenbuilders website, it's great to see the fruition. Post some pics from the launch as soon as you can!

Finest kind! I just learned that a friend of mine has started building one of these beauties. I'll be volunteering some time to his efforts. I've sailed a Doughdish. What a magnificent ride!
Happy sailing! What a superp job you've done!

Sorry guys.
I did not realize Tom over at Havenbuilders.com had already posted this. Thanks for the kind word anyhow.
....about launch photos. The water at the lake was so high that I launched in the parking lot. Paul Bunch (GINA B) and I was so busy trying to keep from smashing into posts and trees and whatever else that photos were forgotten. Advice to others; have a dedicated photographer. It all happens rather quickly.

Reminds me of a story we had to read in school, "Windwagon Smith." But you'd need bigger wheels :D

Thanks.
The little wheels? Little wheels make for a fine shopping cart, but not so good for "dry sailing". Hopefully she will handle better in the water than on land.
The colors? Although this may disclose an undesirable aspect of my bachelor lifestyle, but the colors are lifted from a Wendy's Restaurant drink cup and skillfully matched by Mr. Kirby.
The money? It adds up. Steadily at first then a sudden burst at the end. Some mistakes were made that resulted in a re-do or two. Here is a break down:
Haven Construction Cost By Category
BOAT MATERIALS
Wood for Construction of Boat $3,143
Bronze Fittings $3,094
Sails and Covers $1,908
Paint and Varnish $1,154
Fasteners $1,141
Rigging $716
Epoxy/Sealants $630
Misc $623
Subtotal $12,409
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
Materials for Molds, Cradle $1,134
Consumables $408
Subtotal $1542
OTHERS
Trailer (delivered) $3,229
Subtotal $3,229
GRAND TOTAL $17,180
Format is not so good, but the numbers reflect my experience.
Sticker shock? Might want to hide this from your spouse.

That looks like a bargain for a sweet boat, Dan, since Eric Dow and company charge nearly twice that amount for the same boat. (edited part): I could never afford the same boat, unless I build it myself.
