First off, a greeting to everyone. I've been lurking in the shadows for a while, getting a feel for the weather, so to speak. =D Figured it was about time to introduce myself and maybe pick at a brain or two.

Howdy!

I've meandered through many a forum in my days, and I must say it's rare that I find such an intelligent, varied, jocular and witty yet unsullied (weeeell, maybe I won't go that far) group such as ye'. tongue.gif

I am slavoring for any and all information I may obtain regarding:

...the love of my life:

There is extremely little information regarding Kings Cruisers available on the web (at least, in english) so I honestly have little knowledge of her lineage. I understand her pedigree to be of the folk-boat family, but beyond that... :(

On To The Proud Fatherly Display!

This is a year ago, right after her bottom work in the above pic:

Here she is after a year of TLC, almost ready to sail again. Pic from last weekend:

Look at that wood!! Tigers Eye stone has nothing on mahogany:

And that slim 7' 3" beam!:

I am grateful for any information you may have.

Now thats a darn fine looking job you've done there refinishing her, she looks fantastic.
The style makes me think late 50's, early 60's?

I've heard the story of the King's Cruiser from a friend who used to own one. It was designed for the King of Sweden. Since the King was of somewhat diminutive stature, cabin headroom is less than normal. Will attempt to investigate more.

Have you done a search on Kings Cruiser on the Forum yet? There is a forum member under the moniker of Kings Cruiser and there have been a few threads regarding them. A quick search gave me 15 threads in Building/Repair alone.

Good luck with her, I've seen a couple and they truly are interesting boats.

Jamie

This is one of the things I've been puzzling over. By some accounts it's the Kings Cruiser (named thusly, makes sense), but by other accounts it was the Folk-boat.

What I've heard is... late '30s / early '40s the King decrees a competition. About 50 entries are accepted, none win as first place. Instead, the top four entries win monetary awards and the designs are handed over to AB Telfa, who takes the best features from each, polishes them up and incorporates them together to create...

The Folkboat... or The Kings Cruiser

*shrugs*

I do have an old American promo piece that states that these first became available in America in 1955.

Trog, when I was researching background data on a Swedish boat I once owned, I sought help from the Stockholm Maritime Museum. The archivist was extremely helpful and responded quite quickly to my many e-mails.

E-mail Malin Joakimson at:

Good luck, Jerry
