I'm trying to collect information about maritime jobs available. In this time of economic crisis, more marine jobs are disappearing while more people are trying to escape the chaos ashore and work afloat. I'm inviting anyone who has knowledge of Marine jobs to forward that info to me and I'll post it in LivingWorkingAboard.com, a site for us working stiffs with salt in our veins. Thanks

There doesn't appear to be much here in Newport. I've heard that a few yards and builders have given out a few pink slips.

I'm ready to go afloat myself. I'll have to check out that website.

Hi -
I just went looking for LivingWorkingAboard.com. Even added "www" in front of it:), but no joy. Different URL? Not online yet?
Thanks,

Google certainly brings up nothing by that name...hmmmm
Always suspicious when a new poster asks for personal information via email. Any website worth its salt (yarr) can collect that info directly via cgi scripts or email links.

It's 'living aboard mag'. The above is a category...which does exist.

Marine Industry News, Soundings Trade Only, and Professional Boatbuilder are a few publications to keep an eye on.

It is a new site, but I just checked again and it came up fine. Thanks to guys like you I'll keep tabs on the site and hopefully we can get some leads for mariners who want (need) to live and work on the water.
Thanks again.

Tell your webmaster to put the URL text in the meta tag list -- currently the site can't be Googled by the name LivingWorkingAboard.com They have the words separately but not together.
What is the name of the website?-- again not listed. Per the website it seems to be "working aboard"....best to have the page name, site name and URL all match.

I've posted chapter 2 of "Chartering Your Boat for Money" at http://livingworkingaboard.com/viewtopic.php?p=20#20
There's been good response to my quest for leads on jobs afloat. For those who want to turn their boat into a business, here is a chart with the safest and surest route.
Thanks to everyone who've sent in tips and job openings on the water.

Any work that you can do ashore from home (within reason) can be done afloat....just on a smaller basis....

I read your book Capt Conrad. It's a good read. It did not cover much about the water taxi business or kayak/eco tours which is why I read it but maybe that's an Alaska specific thing.
Here in Kodiak most of the jobs are commercial fishing. It's been in steady decline for years. Same old story. Fish prices are going down but costs go up. Farmed fish have allot to do with it.

Round these parts no one's hiring deckhands, but if you have a WKM or higher or if you're an engineer you'll do well enough.
