All-

Anyone have a source for 8 pairs of 6" Brass T-Hinges (Tee Hinges)?

ABI the manufacture has apparently ceased production and Hamilton and Jamestown appear to be all or just about out.

The Lettie G. Howard thanks you.

Norm,

Hinge "E" is the one I am trying to source. I know beggers can't be choosers but I wonder why they are 4 times the price of what Hamilton charged?

Thanks, at least I know we have options now.

Jonathan, I'm going there tomorrow, so I'll have a look and let you know what I find out.

They're pretty solid, with a lightly polished, rough finish. About 3/16 in thick. Brass pins. Fastening holes nicely machined, with plenty of meat left. Not as strong as they look however, because IMO the "web" around the pin is a bit slight. Expensive.

Took these with my phone. The screws shown here are #6 or #7. Would take #12 or 14.

Bronze T strap hinges are available from the Port Townsend Foundry and The Wooden Boat Store in Pt. The ones from the WB Store are made by Davey.

... and we have bronze ones out here for only slightly more than these brass ones.

Brass fittings are fine for below-deck use on locker doors and so on, but I'd be inclined to use bronze ones above deck.

Might try Horton Brasses too...

Ditto what Jay said. Don't use brass. It won't hold up as well and won't weather the same as bronze. Also, bronze is considerably stronger than CAST brass. The Lee Valley hinges are for light duty furniture use indoors. If you cannot find bronze hinges, you would likely pay the same or less to have a sheet metal shop turn them out. They have the tooling to bend the hinge casing tubes and the rest is just simply cutting them out of sheet stock and drilling and countersinking the holes. If you ever saw "Schindler's List," there's a scene in there where a prisoner is working in a shop turning out hinges amazingly fast and he shows some Nazi officer how it is done. Good hinge making tutorial!

I bought two pairs of those hinges for use on Dove's folding seats (freshwater mind you), and I am quite happy with the quality. They are american hinges, made by the Erie Lock company if I remember.
