Bedding compound or glue?

If I am joining the stem to a plank bottom for example a Wherry or Dory, should I glue the stem or use bedding compound and bolt through?

Epoxy-ply boat use epoxy. Solid wood boat use bedding cmpd.

As Terry says, it depends on the materials and design. For solid wood boats I'd be tempted to use a flexible adhesive like Vulkem116 rather than bedding compound, but would also coat the faying surfaces with red lead. This is not a joint you'll be taking apart very often...
