I was pleasantly surprised to find issue 207 on the doormat when I returned home this evening.I have only glanced through it so far and I intend to read every word of the account of Sam Manning's cruise in a dory.I remember John Gardner recounting that Sam had covered a lot of miles in a dory in one of his books and the intervening years have added to the total mileage. The image of Tom Jackson sailing the boat that he created in its entirety was quite pleasing but I think he needs to do a little refining to make the mainsail look as appealing as the rest of the boat.Still an impressive achievement.

207 arrived a couple days ago here. The Downeast Dory Adventure is a great story. Anybody know where the lines of that dory might be seen?

I've wondered if Sam Manning's dory isn't "the Bank dory adapted to wartime Coast Guard use" shown on page 48 of The Dory Book.

And the painting article was interesting, although it deviates from the way I paint my boat. No primer. eight coats!

Hugh's picture that went along with the editorial was very nice, too.

the boat on the front cover looks gorgeous (if one can trust the itty bitty pic on the homepage) ... I think they'll appear on my newstand in a month or two :)
