Deck Stain Color

I just aquired a 1954 26ft CC Sedan. I removed the red mahogony stain from the rear cockpit deck. Photos from Mariners Museum indicate the deck stain color is lighter than the red mahogony sides. Are any CC decks of this type teak? How can I tell if the wood is teak? txblocks@swbell.net What color stains (other than red mahogony) were used on cockpit decks in this era?

i also have a 26' 54 cc, from what i see on my boat i think the deck is mahogany. maybe we could share info? such as what type of motor does your boat have? or had like mine.

I restored classic speedboats for 25 years.Chris Crafts of this time are called in the "Blonde" era. The wood is mahogany which has been bleached. You use two part bleach to bleach the wood. Some restorers do nothing with the wood-that is no stain is applied. I like to apply a light fruitwood stain.
