It has an aluminum cutwater that transitions into the keel, and then the keel transitions into wood midships. Beneath the waterline, the aluminum extrusion that protects the keel has deteriorated through electrolysis and has left an appox. 1" void over a length of about 12". Eventually I will replace the aluminum cutwater/keel with stainless, but for now I am thinking of filling the void between the hull and keel with West epoxy (with microballon thickener) and then covering the area with some fiberglass and more expoxy to give it some protection. I am a little concerned that this might not be such a good idea due to swelling and causing pressure in that area, although located where it is, I wonder if there is any need to be concerned since it won't have much resistance outwards. Any input about this plan would be greatly appreciated.

It's not an unimportant part of a car that can be slathered over with Bondo.

A better repair would be to fair to good wood and put in a wooden "dutchman". Done right with epoxy as a glue and you'll be fine. You probably do not want to cover with a strip of glass.

I think that Skiffcraft (http://skiffcraft.com/)is still in business. I'd ask their advice.
