It was just too much. Decided to taper it down fore and aft. Went from this...

Hoping it won't give me such a fit in current and lets me swap ends a little easier.

No CB/DB or skeg? If you still have problems, you might consider putting more lateral resistance aft by building a skeg-like addition...or perhaps two?

I want less lateral resistance. I need to maneuver better in current.

Right, what I was thinking was that having the lateral resistance in either the center or aft would make the boat easier to turn -- works for sailboats.

Seems that as long as the lateral resistance is equally distributed along the hull, you might continue to have some issues turning. But if you don't need the lateral resistance (like a canoe hull) then your trim job should work fine.

I plan to leave the keel full depth in the center.

Phil I think you're doing the right thing.:) Not what you just did,but rather "trial and error" until it suits your expectations. It may take a bit of fine tuning but the design easily accommodates experimenting.;):D
