I'm working on a book.. Okay, only a few chapters done but a few is better than none at all. No procrastinating here.
Now there are quite a few on the forum that have played various roles.Umm, may I use your names?

You can use my name and write about me if you want... but, seriously, you want folks to read your book, don't you??

So long as you spell it right.

Anyway, truth is a defense.

Please change my name to DimJ, to spare my mother, Mrs DimJ, and our cats, any embarassment public knowledge of my existance might cause.

Blast off Jamie...I don't care

02-04-2009, 01:41 PM

Feel free to use my name, in the unlikely event that I figure in your stuff.

02-04-2009, 01:47 PM
It's unpronounceable from the spelling and unspellable from the pronunciation. Why on earth would you want to use my name?

Well, as long as you use it in vain....

What's so hard about 'Dan'?

Do I have to give you my real name?

S.V. Airlie

Okay, I think I owe several of you some idea as to what I am doing.

Some of you remember "Travels with Charley" Steinbeck's book.. Wellthis one is a bit like that.. "Travels with C'dog. Alias Ceilidgh..
Now C'dog was even named by a few members of the forum...A start!

The book begins with Uncas, her refit, her demise etc. and continues on to buying another wooden boat, the buying of Airlie, the work done, those involved, her history, her rebuilding, those involved etc. And then the melding of a Porttie and an old wooden boat. Her travels with a dog as bos'n, the issues, the problems, the wooden boat formites who have helped, been involved etc. Nothing negative..far from it. If nothing else, it will be a plus for tghe WBMag. and the forum..
So that is the basic outline. Yes, I maybe shot but, itwon't be thge first time someone misses.

02-04-2009, 02:38 PM
Sounds like a neat idea, just wish I'd contributed in some way ;)

02-04-2009, 02:38 PM
does your story perchance need any .. uh .. writers embellishments ?

Ian McColgin

"Grace Notes" - the draft now in the Hyannis Port mud - was a bit along those lines except that more than illustrating people and places it was to illustrate good boat handling. Pretensions to "Compleat Cruiser" I suppose. Not being too creative at inventing people and incidents I first took all the people from the real life and listed their personality elements. I then mixed the elements a bit in an attempt to keep anyone from being recognizable. A little Paul here, some Suzanne, Anna, & Joan and a bit more equals "Kirsten." It was to accomplish two goals: Didn't want my more sensitive friends sniffing, "Oh, that's what you think of me." And I wanted to avoid, "I was there: That's not how it happened."

It helps to be able to move timelines about for the sake of storyline and well done fiction is so much truer than bald fact.

I thought " Grace notes "involved bagpipes! I had a heck of a time with them!

It sounds like a great idea, Jamie. My guess is that once completed, if the manuscript is ever accepted by a publisher, the legal department of the publisher will deal with the necessary permissions.

You can call me Al.

Woody is the latest incarnation of you know who.

There's usually a disclaimer at the front of a novel to the effect that:
"Any resemblance to real life is entirely co-incidental"

I sometimes feel the same way about this place.

NOT in a sonnet!!! Do that and I'll haffta hunt you down Jamie!! :D:p

02-04-2009, 04:48 PM
Thanks for asking. Use R. B. Garr in my case, if there's any call for it. (The R is for Robert, the B for Bobert. Pronunciation the same as Steve Colbert's.)

02-04-2009, 05:27 PM
If you can find a use for my name it's all yours....a couple of ex wives have trashed it already.........

02-04-2009, 06:52 PM
Hey Jamie is this one of those graphic novels, aka comic books?Feel free to use away but you have to make me younger, taller and with more hair.I'd ask for better looking too but wouldn't want the ladies to swoon.Oh yeah,a gold tooth and eye patch would be good too.:D

We had an interesting discussion at a BBQ on Friday night. A friend is an author and he was discussing his next book - it will be his first children's book incidentally. We got to talking about my couple of ideas - the first is a management book - which may well happen, the second though is the fun one.... He actually got enthused enough to start talking plot developments, etc. Hmmmm got me thinking again.

Good luck with yours mate.

Thanks Steven...You have more pics of Airlie and Uncas than I do.. Not sure how or where they will fit in.
There are obviously a couple of stones to turn.. A publisher is foremost..
So, working on it..I figure if I get a few chapters done and send them off with an outline of chapters to come, something may turn up.

Thanks to the others responding...

Are you using Pages? Or Word?

That's a question for one who is computer literate. As it is right now, it is pen and paper...Once I figure the logistics on this computer, I'll transfer the raw data.

You are your own Publisher. Think about self-publishing. There are several sites where you can set up your own book and print on demand.

Write it and they will come. Sign me up for the first edition.

02-05-2009, 11:34 AM

Send them to me, I'll type them up for you.
