That said, I'm now clear with the IRS, right? I mean, isn't that the way it works now? No matter how many thousand one may owe, one just admitts it to a public forum and then no jail time is necessary?

Neither the IRS nor the Federal Treasury care about self-flagellation or emotionalism.

They're pretty much just looking for the money.

I once went ten years without filing. When I finally did I got money back. 'Course, its a differnt thing when they owe you.

What a coincidence! I just went thru the same thing with IRS' Canadian counterpart.
Damned annoying to have my accounts frozen, then it took about two weeks to convince the authorities to free up enough cash to allow me to pay what I owed.
No jail time involved. And, the fellow in Ottawa actually thanked me for paying!
