Just prop some ski runners under the thing and go sailing....when we didn't have water or ice we hung wheels on ours and sailed the flats....

Much fresh water in this bay?

Russ Manheimer
01-31-2009, 05:56 PM
It's little brakish up my end. There's enough current from the canal to keep some of the upper Bay open. There's limited circulation in the basin at Beatons so it freezes up, currently keeping me from sailing. Still have opportunities for hot stove sessions.

Sitting hear listening to Joe's stories from his childhood. Some fun.

Only one day went above freezing in January here.
Two feet of snow on the ground.
Not exactly sailin weather.

Give your Bassets a pet for me. We used to have one until about 2 years ago. Found out today that one of my son's gym team mates has a basset.

My best friend for 13 years was a Basset. As I sit in my home office if I just bend and look far to the right I can see his grave, covered in large stones. I miss him.

Russ, the boat looks awesome, as always. Looks like you guys had a very nice visit. At least the sun shone for you!

I was wondering if you were going to make it out when I saw the heading. I spent all day yesterday working on the Finn, the Dragon, and the Star, trying to get ready for the upcoming season, but the Finn fleet did make it out for a long practice session.

Hang on, guys. Spring is coming.

Let's do this again.

I don't think this thread ever actually had anything to do with sailing. Mostly just hanging out with friends. Just as good.

Russ Manheimer

The sailing will come soon. The basin's had ice in it since Christmas; about three to four inches in places. The bubblers keep the area around Sjogin reasonably ice free but the basin will retain the ice until we get a warm spell and a good storm to break it up. Another few weeks and it'll be ice free.

Good visit with a lot of laughs and one banged up shin. Joe will give you the details.

Best,

Russ

Y'all need an icebreaker! Can't talk Beaton's into getting one?

Do you think the ice will be gone by the 15th?

Comin' to Jersey Steven? If we get a warm spell the ice may well break up. I'll keep you posted.

Russ-
The photo's look great. Sharon felt that the dogs stole the show but I like the shots of Sjogin sitting in the ice at the dock. Ours is in the shed awaiting spring, but on the better days, I find myself wishing that she was on her mooring for a quick day sail.

Cheers,
Paul

Hey, baseball has its hot stove league season. Why shouldn't we have a Sardine Off-Season, or a Shipmate On the Hard League?

Any excuse for Sjogin pictures is good enough for me. Looks like a good day, folks.

What happened to the gap toothed critter?

Well while boarding Sjogin with a fresh cup of coffee I stepped gingerly on to the deck then placed my left foot onto what appeared to be a solid teak step. What I forgot was it was a teak board resting on top a wobbly metal milk crate. The board cantered and I fell down into the open cockpit and down into the open bilge. Bashing my shin pretty good. So good in fact I had to seriously lay down and wait for the pain to stop.

I figure after the settelment I'll be the new owner of Sjogin ;)

Satan, get thee behind me.

At this stage I'll put up with the crowds below. I've had large Catboat fantasies in the past or something with a bit more room, but Sjogin suits my resources.

If anything I may try to line up something to daysail in the Summer while I work on Sjogin in the shed. She has a few semi-major projects pending (rubrails and toerails, spar stripping, garboards et al) and I may be more willing to start if I have something suitable to sail.

Come on down Canoez, and I'll try to shoehorn you in!
