Fancy, the fifty footer shown here, was IIRC the original "Magic" class sloop by Sanford. Unusual construction. I was in San Francisco on business and went to see her as she was being built. The webpage link shows that she's in Maine now. I'll have to see if I can find her.

Good luck with your Magic 30.

When I was a kid sailing on Nantucket Sound Impala was "Queen of the Fleet" in Edgartown if not the whole Sound. Nice to see she's still in good shape. She was dark blue back then.

Interesting you are so familiar with Alfie's fleet. Do you know him at all?

Fancy is in Northern Maine and in great shape. She was built from the inside out. We took Impala up there last summer to visit her.

Impala is also in great shape, having gone through many refits since her days at Edgartown. She is back in Nantucket Sound after 6 years spent in Europe, and is now white (after a few years being black).

Now, Alfie is downsizing (from Impala) with this new boat, the Magic-class 30 (any other info on the boat can be found on the blog!)

No, I don't know him but would like to. I do know the guy who restored the Alerion his site lists for sale in Western Mass. I put him in touch with another friend (Gene Clapp) in Nantucket thinking someone there would want to buy it for sailing in the fleet there. I'm kind of surprised no one has bought it. Perhaps the restoration altered it in some way to make it uncompetitive??

I didn't know Sanford owned Impala. Must be quite a guy.

BTW, any update about your Alden yawl that went to Chelmsford?

he is quite a guy. He has owned Impala for 22 years in fact. He first saw her when she would sail from Edgartown to the Nantucket Boat Basin the first year she was built, in 1954.

I have been sailing with him on Impala for the past 7 years, and that is the reason I am working on the MC-30 at the moment.

No update on the Alden yet...

Great site for Magic. I am new to wooden boats. I own a 46ft cold molded cat, and it was great to see how the boat goes together. I have owned her for 6 years now. During this time I am learning to do repairs, and rid her of some bad drainage design.....thanks for the post....i2f
