Now that I have replanked one side of the Townie with new pine, 5200, and silicone bronze machine screws with nuts inside, and having had to clean the excess 5200 from the outside laps via sanding; I am wondering what kind of mess I will have to deal with on the inside when I turn her over?

THE SAME.- Take a razor blade and carefully slice the 5200 at the edge, then use a sharp chisel to carefully scrape it off the board. Probably the fastest and easiest way in the long run. Heat should make one fine mess.

If it has hardened it can be abraded away using a steel rotary brush on a drill or even sanded.

The best 5200 wondergoo removal tool I have found is a sharpened scraper tool in a Fein sander. Cuts the stuff great!
