Just released the clamps on the final plank a few minutes ago and took a quick shot with the digital camera. I am very pleased with the results and feel satisfied that I have given it my best effort. I've got 4 or 5 more shots left on my regular camera before I finish out the roll. I'll do a proper album update after I get those finished and developed.

Sweet! Now you get to turn her over. That sure is a fun moment. We had a little family ceremony when we flipped the Thistle.
Cecelia was 7 when she took this picture:

The timer took this one right after the turnover:

Is that a little speck of dust I see on the floor in the foreground? Shame on you. :D

OK OK OK The boat is a beauty. Great job!
You can't possibly be building a boat in that garage. Elves come around in the night, sprinkle magic dust and POOF! A boat appears. Right? :D
Deep down inside, I think the biggest roadblock to my boatbuilding dreams is knowing that SWMBO will expect operating room cleanliness during the construction process. How do you do it? Is there some monster dust collection system just out of the cameras view?

I have been impressed with your craftmanship and cleanliness (insert big envy look here). I notice that the plank joints are close together and between molds. Are they scarfed or butt blocked?
Great job!!

Nice boat!
Don't let those messy shop guys pick on ya!
I like a clean shop too - tripping over stuff on the floor is a pain!
Take Care,

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement and even the ribbing about the clean shop. We all have our own little quirks. No fancy dust collection system or elves... just me and a broom. Though I did notice that about 10 years ago an elf infestation had occurred in my house. It's great! All the stuff that I left strewn about the house (coffee mugs, dirty underwear, etc) seem to be magically picked up, cleaned, and returned to the proper location. I figure it must have occurred while I was away with my wife on our honeymoon right after we got married.
Bill: The concrete doesn't seem to bother me too much but I probably spent as much time sitting in my thinking chair and staring at the hull as I did actually working on it.
Jeff: The joints are scarfed. I didn't worry about staggering them since I figured the scarfed joint was bonded with expoxy and was pretty darn strong.
Thanks again all!

Lee,
Good job. You and I are at roughly the same stage on our respective Fulmars. I just started to paint the bottom in preparation for turn-over.
I will be in Dallas later this month on business. It would be fun to get together and compare notes. Leave me a message or e-mail me if you would be interested.

Super nice looking work! As for me, I'll just go on pretending that the layer of sawdust in my shop serves a higher purpose...cushioning, spill cleanup or whatever excuse seems relevent at the time :D

Fine work indeed, and, say, doesn't this represent nearly the half-way to completion point? ;) Thanks for showing all those east, west, and gulf coasters what us inlanders can do. Your planks look so shiny that I'm wondering if you epoxied them. Let us know when the big launch day arrives and perhaps we can get a contingent of Forum folks from central Texas up to help you do the job.

They use it in basements to seal out the cold and it is quite dense giving your feet that "cushy" feel when you walk on it. I didn't mind building in the garage over the winter a bit. Oh, the temperature? Well, hmmm... the Brits would say something like, "It was cool in the GARage." ;)
