is this a good deal?
Ed Monk Sloop - Ed Monk Sr. designed hard chine sloop. Comes with a nice trailer. It needs some TLC, but will make someone a nice little pocket cruiser. $750.

found more pictures here on ebay... only fetched 250 and didn't hit the reserve.

i'm pretty green here on this forum so you can take my comments for what they're worth....
if you have no problem doing what woodwork there might have to be done and the expensive parts,ie. spars, sails, power(?) etc. are in good useable shape, i'd say it's a good deal, looks like a nice boat.
the real question is, "what has to be done to it, besides the obvious cosmetics?" recognizing the areas in need of repair and thier costs can make or break what looks outwardly like a deal. pictures don't always tell the whole story. it might be worth while to pay a surveyor to save you allot of headaches and unexpected expenses later on.
Here are a few ways to look at this.
First: the trailer is probably worth $750.
Second: $750 for a lot of fun and learning.
Third, wait until the auction ends and if no one takes it offer much less---It may end up on EBRF listing too?
Forth: Do you really love it, or are you just looking for a deal. There is never a good deal if you do not love the boat, you will most likely get tire fast and get a bit into the restoration---this kills boat all the time. So all this even, for $750 would you get this boat over all others?
Fifth: Are you just wanting to restore a boat and it does not matter what the design---then go for it---$750 is the cheapest part of the entire project!
Sixth: research the design, be methodical and see if you like it, get a survey (at least $400), go look at the boat, etc---then see if it is still for sale and maybe buy it---safe and smart, but who said there was too much smart about old wooden boats.
Seventh (plug for WBRF), get on the listings at WBRF and see if there is a free boat first that you like or love save it? smile.gif WBRF (http://www.woodenboatrescue.org)

thanks and an answer to number 4... no I don't
anyway, I'm afraid I might be wifeless if I take on another boat before the one I'm doing now is complete.
I do see some nice ones on www.woodenboatrescue.org (http://www.woodenboatrescue.org) though :D
