Okay, so.....dang.... I came within inches of getting this today. I'm still torn up about it. I'm not sure if my terminal case of wood boat disease is cured or not, but for today I passed on it. I just couldnt do it. I have way too much on my plate at the moment. Any other time in my life and there would not have been any hesitation.

The hull is sound. With some woodwork needed topside. It had a new engine and tranny put in seven years ago to the tune of $65,000. An 8-71. They stopped using it a couple years ago and somehow the shaft is seized in place. I'm not sure why they thought this was such a problem.

This was really the deal of the decade for around here. Hopefully one of you can jump on it. I'd call the guy tonight and plan on being on location in La Conner in the morning.

I am so very glad that thing is not in my neck of the woods. I'd sell a couple kids to buy something like that. But then I'd have to take em back when they find ou thow much those gremlins eat. Sigh.....

Holy crap, Dan, that is a lovely boat and I am soooo impressed with your self-control. I would have had a lot of 'splaining to do with the missus if I had been in your shoes.

I dont know, Tim. The thing hasnt run in a couple years. I dont know the inner story and I also didnt look at it in person. I was literally on the way though.

When I first became aware of this this afternoon, I was busy and had a friend who knows this stuff, make the call for me. He's not answering his phone now, so I cant get any more details. I do know that people are coming to look at it tomorrow. And it sounded like the guy just wanted it gone.

As far as I'm concerned, I already missed the boat on that one, Ron.

The key is the implicit "haul." Like NOW !!

There's nothing quite so expensive as a free boat.

It could be fun but start with the cost of moving - towing most likely as she's a bit large for overland hauling without all sorts of permits and expense - her to a place where you can spend money and time finding out all you missed at first look.

It's a bit like falling in love at a bar. True love is not impossible but once the haze wears off you may wonder.

"It's kind of like falling in love in a bar."

Ian, that is one of the most profound similies for ANY boat acquisition I have ever heard! You ought to copyright it!

I fear somebody wouldn't be asking for "free" if he didn't think he was getting the best of that deal.

Hey, there's a spot to put it over on the Anacortes waterfront now that they've hauled the Enchantress away. . . .
