Just had a call from a Newfoundland boatbuilder suggesting that it might be worth calling the City of Halifax clean-up crews to see what was happening to the downed oaks from Point Pleasant Park. Since we are in BC I'm not even going to think about shipping lumber that far - we have local oak sources anyway. But you guys in Nova Scotia..? I said I would pass along his suggestion to this forum.

Good luck to all of you clearing up.

Barbara

Looks like a good idea to me! WoodMizer time.

Might as well make the best of a bad situation. No reason these fine trees should go to waste. Let them live on in your boat...

Careful ....... park trees are sometimes full of nails and chunks of iron. Just a thought.

Just from what I have seen on the news and from speaking with people who have been into Halifax the priority is getting the wood removed.Consequently it is getting junked up and hauled away for disposal. It may be an opportunity for someone with the heavy equipment to remove the logs to a site outside of the city for processing or milling. It's a shame really as there are some huge maples, elm and oaks that are getting sawn up for firewood.Probably only limited use for boats but a lifetime supply of cabinet wood.
I'm sure you would find some interesting artifacts buried in some of the logs.Could be hard on a Woodmizer blade.
The City and most of the people affected just want the downed trees gone so they can get the power restored and have access again.
A real tragedy as Halifax is a beautiful city noted for its stately trees.
