Hey guys,

after much work (and a very patient wife and child) I have finished my Hartley TS restoration project. She will undergo sea trials this afternoon at Clayton in South Australia and I'll post more pictures later. Here are a couple of before (blue) and after (timber) shots. Cheers, Sofala

What a tremendous difference it makes in her look! Can you post more pics such as any work you did in the cockpit and below?
Best wishes for the splash!

Great stuff Sofala! Does your Hartley have a name? And I second Doug's request: More shots of the process!

A couple of picture of the day. All went well but we had a couple of pints of water in the bilge after the first outing but did not get any worse...not sure where it is coming from...any ideas? I checked the hull when we got her out of the water but couldn't see anything obvious.

She's very pretty; well done. The leak is just an attention getting device - she just wants you to know you are not finished yet. Centreboard pivot?

Thanks for that Boatbear. I woke up during the night and thought that it could be something to do with the centreboard. I'm not sure how they are sealed but I'll be going down to Clayton this week to do a couple of bits on her..I'll have a look then. Cheers.

Great looking boat.
The leak could be from either the centreboard pivot bolt or along the bottom of the centreboard case where it sits on the keelson if yours bolted in. If bolted in, make sure all the bolts are tight. The ones at the aft end of the C/B case are sometimes hard to get at, especially if you have a solid bulkhead between the cabin and the area under the cockpit.

You may want to also check your bungs, it may be something as simple as a split or degraded o-ring.

If it's your centre board pin I have just the thing....:D;)

Here are a few more pictures of her before restoration or transformation. I am about to make a boat cover using a good quality tarp...does anyone have any advice? Tips etc?

Mate, if you can do it where you are the best sort of tarp is a colourbond/zincalume one and for the price of what you may need to pay for something that won't degrade after 2 years it may be just as cost effective. I had a cover made up for "Vagabond" when I was on Hayman because she was out in the weather, the material was supposedly the best UV/weather resistant gear you could get but after 2 years it was stuffed.

You could do single skillion roofed shed for about $900.00 or so.

In the US, a standard fabric for boat covers and biminis and sail covers and lounge chairs is Sunbrella. Not cheap but really is sturdy and colorfast.

Nicely done Sofala! Great to see another Hartley here. I am currently building a Hartley TS 18, I hope mine turns out as nicely as yours.

Gordon
