FINALLY got really going on the 12' Sassafras canoe kit we picked up at Woodenboat School in August. Began gluing up planks and outwales last night, this AM went to check on the progress of the epoxy, had a very nice flashback to the boatshop with the spicy scent of cedar. Gluing last two planks this evening, and the other two longitudinals. After this...the 9'6" Nutshell Pram.

Just finished gluing planks 4 and 5 and the second set of longitudinals. Tomorrow - some sanding of excess and the beginning of wiring. Goodnight all.

You're sure right about the smell of cedar. I love it. I've been working a mess of western red cedar for the last few days: sawing, jointing, planing. It's a treat. There are a lot of woods I love to work for that very reason. Canarywood smells delicious. I like the smell of ipe too. My favorite olfactory woodworking experience, though, is turning cherry... and breaking into those tiny little pitch pockets. It's like a pot of cherry sap vaporized inside your head! Every time it happens, I'm instantly back to the first time, in 1972, turning spindles for a crib.

Regarding your particular project -- I understand that around these parts, it's merely hearsay, i.e. strictly imaginary... until the pictures are offered for review and admiration ;)
