View Full Version : cradle
I recently spent an afternoon reinforcing the cradle on a 40 foot sailboat in mid restoration. To me a gaff is a big hook for landing musky, and a rig is what truckers drive, so don't ask me details of the boat (see http://www.sycrp.ca/ ) Just wondering if anyone has any insight into moving a boat of this size by crane onto a flatbed and trucking it about 50 kms.
I have enough graemlins in my head,

Hi,
I persume you have demasted the boat?
any good cerified crane operating company would have no trouble in lifing onto a transporter..
as long as the cradle is strong enough to hold the weight of the boat. simply put cradle onto transporter then lift boat out of water and put into cradle.. at the other end you will need two cranes one for the boat and one to lift off the cradle and the other to reset the boat into it.. have a look at any boat yard and most have big boats sitting in cradles and most are placed there by cranes.
newer yards have travel lifts but still a lot of crane work is done.
the crane company will have all the necessary equipment for lifting the boat just make sure they have done boat lifting.
