View Full Version : Plywood Buying Links
I need six sheets 3/8 Okume and two 1/2in sheets and the locale yard wants about $120 for a sheet of 3/8 Joubert, would i be better off ordering it online and crossing my fingers that i get good stuff with a good price? Anybody have any good leads on the way they get plywood shipped and does the shipping eat up any savings per sheet that would be realized? Thanks

What your local yard is charging strikes me as a pretty reasonable price for Joubert okoume. It is less than the last ply I bought at that thickness a year or so ago. I am not sure you would get a significantly better deal online and you also face the risk of edge or other damage during shipping. Presumably with your local yard you can see exactly hwt you are buying before you take it home.
Also, there is something to be said about supporting your local supplier if you want them to be in business for you when you need something else from them.

If you can buy okoume locally you must be somewhere where boatbuilding is common. If you buy on-line the shipping would probably run the price up substancially.
Buying name brand okoume is the way to go. A lot of what is sold now comes from China where anything goes.
I can get Joubert in 3/8" for $86 per sheet but I have to drive about 70 miles each way to get it.

Thanks Guys, Think i will go ahead and get it here in Norfolk, Va at Yukon Lumber, they seem like a good company and said they could have it in a couple days, save me the hassle and anxitey of having it delivered sight unseen, and your right on about supporting a local yard i just dont like being the caught fish all the time but a 300dlr savings buying it online and having it shipped can sooth some hurt:)
