Here is my Giesler French River.

My questions are:

Since I sanded out some lumps on the hull glass and it looks foggy. Can I Epifanes over the hull below the waterline to get the gloss back? The boat will never be in the water more than 2 days.

The other question is has anyone ever used that Rhino lining spray on coating? I'm considering it for the engine well to protect from gas, battery and general wear and tear.

Thanks!

Andrew

As with any topside paint (Epifanes, Brightside) or Varnish, your window for water exposure is 48-72 hours. So I'd say yes.

Varnish will not eliminate "fogging" if the fogging is inside the material. If the "fogging" is simply a result of a roughed surface, however, it should. Wet your finger and swipe it over the surface. If the water eliminates the fogging, varnish should eliminate it. If not, you will have to live with a "shiney-foggy" finish. I am assuming that what you are describing here is not an "amine blush" on the epoxy. If that were the case, it needs to be cleaned off before varnishing.

There is no need to use "Rhino" coating, which isn't suitable anyway. Use a good high solids alkyd paint in the engine compartment and bilge. You can pay bucks for "bilge paint" with a boat on the can, or use Rustoleum's paint for about a quarter the price. It is gunk resistant. If you have gas or oil in your bilge, the paint finish will be the least of your problems! There should be no such leakage in a properly installed and maintained power plant. (And if not, fire is a major worry!)
