Hi all

Not been around much the past few months after getting back from my little taxpayer-funded "holiday" in Helmand, so apologies if this is already known about/discussed...

However - the Mavourneen Mary is for sale part way through a restoration, unfortunately due to a bankruptcy...sale of the yacht is being handled by a British firm Wyles Hardy (for some reason - assume ther owner was a British resident...in any case she is lying in Naspa Valley CA).

See http://www.wyleshardy.com/details_single.asp?auctionid=262 for details of how to bid, and http://www.mavourneen-mary.com/ for details of the yacht - just to say I have NO interest in this other than it is a pity not to have her restored and out sailing again...

Andrew - good to see you back on the board - safe and sound we presume.

Helmand sounds like such an exotic location.... yeah, right eh?

Having raced and sailed "Landfall"/"Mavoureen Mary", extensivly, in the seventies, I have , many, fond memories of the boat. I sincerly hope that good fortune will fall upon her in the form of a visionary new owner, who will restore her as she should be. This is a very fine schooner!

Helmand......hmmmm......well. I think I might complain to Thomas Cook...the hotel was a building site, the pool was not even started, and the neighbours were occasionally VERY noisy!

:)

Yeah - was a bit of a tough tour, but settling back into normal life - just in time for the credit crunch and global financial crisis!!! Bother....

Oh well. At least crashing stockmarkets do not involve getting mortared!

Hi All,

Was wondering why the daily visit on my website shot up !!
So as it was a long time I have not been lurking on the forum,
decide to have a quick look !!
Thanks Andrew for posting about the old girl !
Yes it's sad to see that nobody so far has expressed any real interest in saving her . There have been a few enquiries but it does not go anywhere !
She will go for cheap but there is still quite a lot of work to be done ! And I am afraid she will start to deteriorate this winter !
Still based in the UK, trying to get some work on boats or sailing !
At the present I am helping a friend finishing his 28 footer (plastic !) in Faversham and trying to find some sailing opportunities to get enough seatime to pass my yachtmaster offshore as all my seatime (7 years Merchant Navy panama ticket as Chief Mate ) is more than 10 years old !!!
Anyway that's life after bankrutcy !!
If anybody interested in the old girl, I am at your disposition !
Do not hesitate to contact me by Email or phone !!
Thanks to you all.

I was just on the www.mavourneen-mary.com web site. Alain writes that he is shutting the site down at the end of this month see http://www.mavourneen-mary.com/2009

So if anyone is interested in one last look at the photos, go take a look.

I sincerely hope that someone picks up where Alain has left off and finishes the restoration of this schooner.

Good luck to you, Alain, in your future endeavors :)

This is one hell of a good schooner!. I had the pleasure of crewing on her both in S. CA as well as S.F. Bay for many years. I sincerely hope that some one will see fit to aquire her and finish the lease on new life for her.

Hi ,

Yes the website is going to close in 8 days !
Sorry but their price has gone up and I have no money to continue it :o
Anyway, she is now in the hands of the marina and they want $ 20,000. for her !!
There is a 15 tons blob of lead to keep her upright so that should make the price !! How much is lead price these days ???:D
There was an american couple interested in her and a french guy, but have no news from them !
I am still at the disposition of anyone interested in finishing the project !
Thank you all for your support;)
