It's early days yet but the building blog for the RAID41, Michael Storer's new singlehanded Raid design, has just been started. Her name is Trim and a full explanation of her name and design brief is here in the intro

and build pics here. Whilst there have a look at some of Chris's other builds, amongst them a Wood Duck Twelve Candyfloss and an Oughtred MacGregor Scotch Mist.

Chris blog is coming along nicely now. Also have just added, pics still to link yet, a note on RAID41's rig and sails choice.

"RAID41 Rig

Why a balanced lug rig?

The simple answer is Michael Storer loves the balanced lug rig and so do I. But why so?"

I can't find the details on Boatmik's site....

That would be due to the fact that they are not available yet. Close though, Michael said, on the OZ Woodworkers forum, that there will be a site dedicated to the new boat similar to the other Storer designs..............soon.

Nice boat, ... soon there will be people in here clamouring for a cabin with full headroom, an enclosed head, lapstrake built and square rig, with space for a liferaft.

C'mon, Gareth, get serious -- you **know** that they'll also want it to cartop, and be built with white glue, CDX ply and sheetrock screws...

;0 )

Being able to observe parts of the design process like this is fascinating! Somehow it means a lot more to an ignoramus like me when the designers discuss how and why they made certain decisions.
