after a year of looking in every nook, crany, website, and harbour we finally own a boat .
She is a Carvel planked 52' loa ketch built in armdale Nova scotia in 1983,
she has some rot in the planks above the waterline but other than that she is sound (knock on wood). I will need all the help I can get from this forum in the next few years so sharpen your pencils and put on your thinking caps cuz I can't do this alone and I'm beggin for any info you guys can spare.
Let me tell you about myself first.
I am 45 years young in a few days and have a wonderful woman as my partner in life, also a great 16 year old son who is good with wood.
My training is in marine and motorcycle repair and also commercial diving.
I spent the formative years as a commercial fisherman on my dads halibut boat on the B.C coast and sailed for three years in school on a tall ship at first( the now sunk Robertson II)then a 65 foot ketch (the soleskin)and always wanted a sailboat for myself.
I owned my own gillnetter for a few years( a 1958 wood hulled double ender)till a car accident put me ashore.
now at this point in my life i have someone to share this beautiful coast with and we want to sail as much as possible.
soon I will write about the trials and tribulations of getting her home gotto get back to work now.

I haven't gotten myself back onboard with the pic posting thing, though there will be someone around this evening that will give you the lo-down. In the FAQ there are instructions for posting pics.

Congratulations,
One trick I learnt recently for my old wooden boat (which leaks more rain water in than it leaks through the old kauri carvel planks) is to put salt in the bilge so the rainwater becomes saltwater, then it won't rot much (I was told).
good luck

Photobucket provides you with a series of links. Copy the image code link from Photobucket and paste it on the forum page.

Copy and paste the image code from photobucket and paste it into the text window here at WBF.
No need to mess with the IMG code here, because photobucket puts it on there for you.

All it takes is a single click on the fourth line under the picture, the one with the arrow pointing to it above. If you keep your eyes open you'll see a small yellow box appear with "copied" in it and then it's gone. Come back here to your post and right click "paste" and the proper code appears. When you preview or post the code will be converted to the photo. Easy as pie on Photobucket.

The middle one comes out nice. The first and third look like you are trying to link them to your hard drive. Make sure to use the link photobucket gives you.

thought it may be that boat, I saw it there a couple of weeks ago when we brought a frozen snot stink-pot over for hauling. It sure caught my eye - glad it's gone to a good home.
