Can you tell us more about the boat. What's with the sheer? And is that Jamie and C-dog in one of the photos?

That is my wife Shawn and Kipper the wonder dog!
Acacia, was built buy Ralph Remic and Bud McIntosh had a hand in it but he was responsible for the design. That is called a powder horn shear and the design comes from a Quoddy Pilot cutter and Pinky Schooner. Ralph spent ten years building this fine little craft and sailed it only a few times before he became ill. He is in a nursing home and we meet many people in Boothbay who know him and reassure him that his baby is very well taken care of. I bought from the second owner it was jn a field in Rockport, covered and cared for. The boat is cedar on oak strong and well founded. She is in the water year round except for spring haulout. A fine sailer can tend to herself if need be! Ralph worked in a metel fab shop and most all of the iron ,stainless, and bronze were cast or made by himself. Planks are fastened with copper rivots. She is comfortable and tight. Vinny

you've got too many stands on her. You should give two of them away!

Thanks Vinny. I was referring to the guy standing behind the mast. He looks a bit like one of our venerable Forumites - Jamie Johnston, of the schooner Airlie fame. He has a black Portuguese water dog that sort of looks like your pup.
Very nice boat, by the way. Please feel free to tell us more about her. :)

Thats me Vinny behind the mast! What would you like to know about Acacia? Let's see her documented name is Sprig of Acacia, all of her trimmings, mouldings, carlins, rails, etc are black locust, hence acacia. Down below is pine, cherry and locust, and of course some beautiful black walnut that I have added to the head. Oh! gregleeber,if you want to make a good club hollow out some walnut and fill it with lead, works for me.

Wow, Vinny and Shawn that is a beautiful boat. It seems like you've had a lot of boats before. Tell us your favorite of the ones you've owned and why...

Dimensions would be nice. :)
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that looks like Jamie in the photo? Sorry to harp on Vinny, but the resemblence is quite remarkable.

Sorry about the dimensions, she is 32' x 10'6" on deck with 6 ft bowsprit, draws 4'6", 6'4" headroom, full length iron keel from stem to stern, lots of inside lead ballast, plenty of room in the foc'sle to work the anchor rode and chain, engine room is spacious with a pipe berth to port,2 doubles in the main cabin. going forward hanging lockers P&S,head is neatly confined to the foc'sle with doors and curtain for privacy and dressing. Sorry about the dimensions, she is 32' x 10'6" on deck with 6 ft bowsprit, draws 4'6", 6'4" headroom...She is beautifully proportioned to have such a moderate draft yet offer full headroom. What a fantastic looking boat. Thanks for posting her here.

Don, after a few minutes examining the photo with a magnifying glass and my wife's eyes, we have come to the conclusion that BACON BOY HAS A TWIN!
Vinny, my extreme condolences, but from now on whenever you're around WBF people, expect to be boarded and plundered of your rum, gifted with slabs of bacon and have people yelling "STARBOARD" at your dog.

Ahhh… vindicated at last! I was even beginning to doubt myself. Thank you Vince and Mrs. Vince! I zoomed in on the picture when I first saw it and I was sure it was Jamie. My condolences too Vinny. :D
By the way, is your pup also a Portuguese water dog?
Vinny&Shawn
11-27-2008, 07:40 PM
No Kipper is a poodle, they were originally bred from Portuguese water dogs I think? He is a great sailing companion, can leap from dingy to boat in a single bound and does his duty on deck. He can swim but hates water, loves being on the water but not in!!
Yes, Greg because I have less walnut down below I have more room, she is very spacious for a 32' boat.

I think Jamie Johnston should reveal himself so we can compare notes. Vinny

Actually, Vinny, you probably don’t look a bit like Jamie. I think it’s just an anomaly of the photograph. Oh, and the facial hair.
Just messin' with ya! :D

But I hear Walnut is a sign of prestige.
Maybe you should add some black walnut.

great pics--one question about them though--I can't get the interior shots to be any bigger than the thumnails. Same with the leathered hoops pic--did you only post little ones for those? So enticing :)

I'd put more of the images up, but it looks like you have them edited to avitar size. If you put them on photobucket in higher resolution, we could attach them here for people to enjoy.

They look great now Vinny. :)
On Photobucket when you look at a thumbnail or a picture there are four lines of stuff off to the side. If you click on the bottom one, the one that starts with "IMG Code" it will copy automatically. Then in your forum reply just paste what was automatically copied. (Either right click then Paste or just press apple V if you have a Mac) Easy as. ;)

Any time you want me to check on her for you let me know. I've been on the Tugboat's 'winter dock list' for some years in case I get a boat that I'd want to keep in the water and use on the occasional warm winter day. It's great that you can glimpse her from the webcam.

Well yes Acacia is a treat in every respect for a boat of 32'. Very well thought out more room than some boats 37' to 40'. I was thankful to Don Zaponi for relinquishing her to a good home. Does anyone know Don?
I love having the engine room with storage and room enough to move around in comfort and not having to remove or interrupt the galley to get in to work and the tool area. The companionway ladder slides port or strbd. on a bronze rail, then locks in place while you are underway.
