I think he's pretty good. No classic actor, but in the mode pretty good. Very bright eyes.

I saw a pic recently of him and Goldie, his wife. They both looked a bit long in the tooth.

He was born to play Captain Ron! I never bought him in the tough guy roles (Snake Plissken).

Its like one of Larry King's old columns.

I see he gets to be in about 1 movie per year for the past 10.

Makes sense.

For some reason he always makes me think of the "Beach Boys." Ya know, the California surfer dude who made it big in the flickers. He's kinda fun. An American archetype, almost.

Meant in fun. Everything looks so dark with the winter coming on, and I just saw him in a dramatic role in "Dark Blue." A quite good cop drama if you are hunting around for something to watch.

He used to spend summers as a kid in my wife's* neighborhood and they played baseball together. She says he is a sincerely nice guy.

*(Don't like the term Significant Other :) )

Can't place him, I keep thinking of Leon Russell, the record producer.

You've never seen Captain Ron???? I think that is grounds for expulsion from WBF!:D

Not a fan of film, I'd see one or two a year, with SWMBO, under sufferance mostly. Don't watch much TV either, mostly documentaries even then.
I have no patience with fiction on film or in print.

A classic

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."

I loved "Captain Ron"... Gotta see it again.

Overboard is one of my favorites. ROTFLOL every time I see it. I'm surprised no-one else mentioned seeing it.

Ya got a point there, Mark. :) I'm old enough to remember "Laugh In" from its original broadcast. Ooh, that was racy stuff for the time, all the young ladies in their bikinis and body paint. And Goldie stood out as the ditsy blond "straight" girl to Rowan and Martin.

Ya know, I've never seen Captain Ron. One I'll have to look for. I think he does pretty well as a heavy, too. How 'bout the remake of "The Thing?" A guilty pleasure.;)

This cop opera I just watched, "Dark Blue" has him as a corrupt cop in L.A. at the time of the Rodney King verdict. An edgy performance in a tightly written play. He's solid in it.

That's a nice pic of a young Goldie Hawn. Skinny wench. Nice gams. There's a look on her face that asks,"How the hell did I land here?" Not terribly happy about it.

A mediochre "B" actor with a very bad attitude.
I saw "Deep end" both on screen, and in real life. I was in Ft. Bragg and Mendocino where it was being filmed. Goldie nearly killed me on Hwy. 1 while a group of Mendo county sherrifs, and Chips laughed and drank coffee out of paper cups. I had flat spots on all four tires for weeks after that incident.....

The Amer-Indian, most, when they'd figured out how it worked, didn't allow themselves to be photographed. They recognized how important it was to capture a person's face at a moment in time. Powerful mojo.

Call it what you want, Joe. Goldie looks bewitching and sad.

Its biology  Goldie has a naturally down turned at the edges mouth, with slightly square almost jowl like jaw. Combined with unnaturally large eyes give her the vulnerability cupie doll look that appeals to the reptilian part of every mans brain and why she was immediately popular on laugh in. Get over yourself ish

Back to Captain Ron - did anyone else catch his comment about the Formosa 51 having "1600 ponies" when he was looking at the enginge? Those pirates never would have caught him! He could wings on the boat and flown away.

Maybe he mis-read the script when it said 16.00 ponies

Ooh, an unreconstructed Darwinist looking at facial structure as a serious marker, Joe.

Goldie has never much appealed to me. I like faces from the Levant. Nothing against her or her face but that cute blondie gig never appealed to me much.

P.S. I like the banter, but I'm pretty much "over myself." I'm not the one posting pics of myself at the office. I write, in part, for the reaction, but also because I'll never stop until I die. It's in my blood. How that plays without crossing into narcissism is an interesting question. I'm only just capable of asking it, not answering it.

I think Ish has fallen for SamF's anti-scientific BS, noone else would call someone "an unrepentant darwinist" as if that were a mark of dishonor."

Thats the danger of a charlatan like SamF; he fools noone with a first rate mind, but he beguiles the less-gifted.

The Formosa 51 is a Bill Garden Taiwanese rip off...one yard paid for the license to build the hulls, then made hulls for several small yards that finished them and sold them under 3-4 other names....and not paying royalties.
