Having my wife give birth to our second child two months ago it was time to take the next step.
Snip, snip. I got a vasectomy yesterday.
Any one know what this is supposed to feel like? I really cant feel anything different. The doc gave me some big pain killers but franly it doesnt hurt.
Anyone have this experience?

I had no real pain after (of course, Dr. Butterfingers numbed the wrong vas the first time and THAT was interesting...) but I did experience some swelling for a day or two.
All in all, as invasive procedures go, it was fairly painless and completely effective.
(At least, no one's come a-knocking as yet...)

I had it about ten years ago and it did change a few things, like the sensitivity of the "jewels." They were VERY sensitive for a couple years and have never returned to their pre-surgical condition. No problem as long as you leave 'em alone but let some wild woman get her hands on 'em and you better watch out. ;)

How did you get home from the hospital?

Greg-
My experience was the same as yours: a non-event.
Mine was a long time ago, and the part about sensitive jewels is very correct, and it doesn't go away in my case. Other things happen also, but that may be old age:D

My surgeon's nurse was a piece of work--a real cut-up. My instructions were to shave thoroughly but if you've ever tried that--on THAT--it ain't easy.
So when I was being prepared I asked her if I had done a good enough job with the shave and her response was very flattering--"It's absolutely beautiful!"
Seeing her wedding ring I asked her if her husband knew what she did all day and she said, "He doesn't have a clue!"

The key is not thinking you feel well enough to lift something. A buddy of mine went back to work on a fishing boat the day after he got his and he swelled up like eggplants.

10 yrs ago for me....no problems.....but I still remember that day like it was yesterday.
A Gorgeous young nurse in her early 20's assisted the Doc while a local painkiller was given, then she grabbed the end of the old fellow and stretched it tight while Doc did the business.
Kept talking to me the whole time.

16 years ago. Surgery was painless. Next day, I felt like Superman. Went back to work the next evening on the Cape Cod Dinner Train where I was the manager. All the shake, rattle and rolling really did me in. Swelled up big time. Take it easy. Don't push yourself. Get in a recliner with an ice pack, an adult beverage and one of those little painkillers they give you. That'll do the trick!

Discomfort for a few days, but I completely ignored the Doc's instructions and went straight back to work the next day...
I don't recommend that.

I'll second (eighth? tenth?) the "take it easy for a couple of days" sentiments, not to mention the ongoing sensitivity.

Ditto to Peters comment re the great looking theatre nurse,
when I got the local anasthetic "down there" she said ,"don't worry you are just going to feel a little prick!"
They laughed & laughed ,I bet they used the same routine with every vas op.
So far, after 15 yrs, no ill effects.

OKAY, I already broke the rules. I'm not ashamed that I am not the master of my domain. Doc said no ejaculation for one week.
I guess I am week ...
hope it doesnt cause any big problems....

I don't recall those instructions, at least not in the way you have interpreted them. I was told not to count on being sperm-free for a week so if my goal was to prevent pregnancy use something else for a week.
I hope that eases your mind but it occurs to me it might put you in a panic! ;)

4 kids... The doc gave me a good pull on each vas deferens so he had more room to work and then the next day I swelled up... forget egg plants... footballs! Then they put me on a sulfa drug and I reacted with hives all over my body... was off work for a week. Still very sensitive ten years later and if I get even a little bit rough with them it feels like I have been kicked by a bronco. No supermodel in my experence... She was more a Roseanne Barr type and she only smirked at me...
PS I named the 4 kids Adolf, Rudolf, Getoff and Stayoff....

Funny and true. After my third child the then wife an I decided on going to the chop shop. We had the obligatory meeting together and the Doc asked if we had any questions. She remained silent so the date the following week was set for me to get clipped. The next week I show up and the prepping begins and here the doctor is in the room ready to start.
The intercom calls him and he says "I am busy" but the receptionist insists. He picks up the phone and I hear "yes it does change and you will notice a difference"
He hangs up laughing and tells me what a good wife I have and we cannot proceed.
I get home kinda pissed off to find she had a girlfriend over and the conversation turned to taste and that started the cancellation.:D
Nuff said.

I'am absolutely stuned ! it seems for most of you that vasectomy is a non-event! Is it so common in the US ?
I can say that it's NOT in France !
I had two kids with my first wife. But, with Véronique, who's much younger than I, we want a baby. What about if I had a vasectomy after my two beloved previous kids ????
Nobody knows what will happen the next day. I don't want an irreversible surgery !

I don't know the percentage but some are reversible. Being a Frenchman myself I completely understand how you feel. Here in the US it was quite the rage though with lots of men getting snipped.

I made an appointment for vasectomy around 1976.
I was to show up at the clinic the next Thursday.
About Tuesday I picked up a Reader's Digest that had an article on vasectomy.
It said only .002% (or some other very small number) of men die from vasectomies! Die?
That afternoon I called off the appointment.

Mine was over 20 years ago, no problems. But the Europeans here are very chicken about having vasectomies. They would rather risk their partner having another baby or her having an Abdo hyster or a lap sterie, than having someone come near them with a knife. If you are still sore after a week get checked by your doctor.
Well done we do not need any more bodies on this planet.

After my third child my wife signed the paperwork and made the appointment for me. Drove with her on the day of the operation and walked in. Doctor said it would only take about 30 minutes. Right side went very painless. Left side nearly jumped off the table twice until he injected more painkillers. Finished as he said about 30 minutes later. Drove myself and the wife home without any pain. Picked up the painkillers anyway but never used them. Went back to work 2 days later. Swollen and bruised but no pain. No unusual sensitivity to date. I would suggest that if you are that sore after a week then go get it checked out. No more kids so I guess it worked. As I understand, it is reversible if you would like.

HEY EVERYONE MY BALLS ARE FEELING BETTER !
I think I'm good now. They are still huge but that is normal. Oh, as far as being reversable it is 50/50. The took a block out of the highway...
honest to god the doc said my vas was 50% bigger than anything he'd ever seen. I replied get the nurses in here and repeat what you just said...
Looking back on all my run ins with the law and all the girl chasing I wonder if it had anything to do with that. Everyone always said I was more balls than brains... I took it as meaning I was just really tough...

I waited the mandatory 6 weeks healing period after the surgery before collecting a sample to be analyzed to determine whether it took or not. Handed over the bottle to the nurse who took one look at it, disappeared into the lab and came back a minute later with a fresh sample bottle.
Her advice...don't put it in my saddlebag and ride the 22 miles to the clinic on my bike next time. Seems they can't work with whipped cream!
