Jack, I'll be posting ORCA photos for you here...and for all you others who enjoy seeing them...

Some are older from before the time we bought her, -some are fresh, taken a couple of months ago.

I'll try to give you as many angles as possible and of different areas of her.

David will be on board between Thanksgiving and Dec. 9th. He will be taking a lot of pictures of everything and I'll keep posting them as I get them.

During this trip ORCA will get a new Beta 38 engine, and she will be hauled out for a new prop, a transducer and survey...

I don't know what else will be done to her at this time, but what ever her needs be, -they will be attended to.

ORCA is quite sound and her lines are beautiful. Once we have her back in Alaska we will bring her to her full beauty. She needs a lot of sanding and refinishing and I can hardly wait to get started, neither can David, -and Cass too is getting into the idea of having a yacht and learning to sail...

...and JD...I hope you remember what I said about Old Glory...

It's past 2 am here and I'm going to try catch some sleep, so I'll post more pictures of her tomorrow.

Good night...

Great Spinner . :D Now I got something to go on. Now a fun project for you. Design for yourself and family a personal pennant. It will have to be flown from the mast head.:);)

:p:)

I'd love to, but ORCA already has her personal pennant. It has been with her since 1959 when she was "born"...

Work awaits...

I'm so sorry she got a paint job before we bought her. Luckily it was done on top of the lacquer. I hope to be able to get the paint removed and finish her bright like she used to be. It'll be labor intensive but worth it in a long run.

Any of you have an idea on how to get all the paint out of the grooves in the wood, let me know...

Spinner,

She looks like a good boat for you and family :)but she does need some work on the varnish. Do you intend to finish the entire boat bright ? Tough to maintain, don't ask me how I know.

What is that plate on the fore mast held in place with some shock cord ?

Interesting figure head. Can you tell us about it ?

Not the entire boat. Just like she was on 3rd & 4th picture

Piece of sand paper.

Aeoles, the custodian of the four winds. A minor deity, he is the son of a king called Hippotes, and lived on one of the rocky Lipara islands, close to Sicily... In the caves on this island were imprisoned the winds, and Aeolos, directed by the higher gods, let out these winds as soft breezes, gales, or whatever the higher gods wished.

Being visited by the Greek hero Odysseus (http://www.pantheon.org/articles/o/odysseus.html), Aeolos received him favorably, and on the hero's departure presented Odysseus with a bag containing all the adverse winds, so that his friend might reach Ithaca with a fair wind.

Odysseus did as Aeolos bid, but in sight of his homeland, having been untroubled by foul weather, he fell asleep and his men, curious, opened the bag, thus releasing all the fierce winds, which blew their ship far off course (Odyssey X, 2; Vigil I, 52).
