Some information that may be useful.I had contacted Noah's regarding their BS 1088 Okoume plywood and where it was produced.I had specified 5mm as that is the thickness I would be using.I received an e-mail reply stating that indeed most of this plywood was produced in China, except for the 5mm which was produced in Morocco.Interesting.I had also asked if they carried any non Asian produced plywood and was told they carry the Joubert brand from France but it is not available in 5mm.This doesn't appear to be noted on the web site so I requested a price for the 4mm and 6mm Joubert.Waiting for a response on that.

4mm and 6 mm are common. 5mm is not. At least not in the places I've had contact with. And, I haven't seen a demand for 5mm on any of the plans I've accumulated.

The Joubert is very good but the Shelmarine is a little bit nicer still. We were scarphing up some planking stock for the Elf and we had some of each. They looked the same on the outside but the inner plys on the Shelmarine looked much better. Both seem to be holding up well. The Shelmarine was a bit more expensive.

Chuck;Agreed the 5mm is not commonly called for but I like it because it is 5 ply as opposed to the 3 ply for the 4mm.Of course if weight is an issue then the 4mm would be the answer.

Steven; Where did you source the Shelmarine? We used to be able to get Brunyzeel ply here which was really nice stuff to work with.

A quick Google search revealed the CEMA Boise de l'Atlas company in Casablanca,Morocco, manufacturers of plywood panels.

The Shelmarine came from Maine Coast Lumber here in Portland (Westbrook, actually). Their main store is in York anout 40 miles south of Portland.

I think the 6mm occume was about $70 for Joubert and $100 for the Shelmarine.

Thanks Steven.I'll probably go with the 5mm from Noahs what with our dollar where it is.Always good to have some options though.
