I need a good place to get fir or maybe cypress in the port arthur, sabine texas area, suitable for boat use. I picked up some at Coastal lumber in Orange tx. a few days back, 2x6's 12 ft.- $3.20 per foot (ouch) but it is nice lumber. I had 400 feet of it hand picked and loaded before I got the price, thinkin, it can't be all that much. Well it was, i've bought teak for that price. I didn't feel right about telling them to unload it after I had sorted thru several thousand feet of the stuff, and we had to have it now anyway so I just bit my lip and paid up. If anyone has a better source reasonably priced I would very much apreciate it.
That should be perfectly clear, high ring count, straight grain lumber. If it is, the price ain't too bad. But you shouldn't have to pay that for framing lumber. In these parts utility lumber is cheaper than white pine shelving. That is a 2x12 is cheaper than a 1x12.

Best place I know for cypress, doug-fir and WRC all under one roof is Robichaux Lumber in Raceland, LA. I know that's a hike from Port Arthur, TX but Robichaux has the goods.
