Hi
I'm building WC Peapod as my 1st project. It’s a tough job. I started planking recently and have two questions:
1. How can I rivet at the bow and stern? Looking at the garbord and stem I can't find the way hammer rivetheads.
2. Second one is easy and silly;). Fastening portside garbord I haven't noticed that I have a small gap at the stem maybe <1/32'' for maybe 6''. As it's at the end. I could easily unscrew make a deeper cut and be fine. But maybe such a gap could be left for soaking? I don't like the idea of screwing and unscrewing, I feel it will weaken the fastenings.
and that’s all.
You can find some photos at www.elkomendasz.blogspot.com. Sorry for language:)

A 1/32" gap is no problem. Your caulking and eventual "take up" will more than take care of that...
As to the question of how to rivet at the stem and stern... This is a curious question... The garboard "runs out" at the hood end into a sort of rounded knife point. The pointy end generally gets screwed into the stem rabbet. The rest of the garboard gets screwed into the keel rabbet on one edge, and riveted to the frames where there is enough room to work. There may be a frame or two where there isn't enough board to rivet....Don't worry about these. The garboard at these points is narrow enough to support it's self.

Thant you for reply.
Problematic fitting will be the whole rabet (plank to plank), about 12''. I think about screwing planks together, but don't belive in such short screws. Maybe clenching is an option? I could go further with clenched nails than with rivets. Somethig must hold this planks together;)

I think we have a language barrier... ;)
IF I understand you, the garboard needs fastening to the frames (ribs). The next strake (The first broad strake) can easily be riveted to the frame, but not the upper edge, near the ends, of the garboard....By 12" or so..... No problem. It won't get any outward pressure there, and water pressure will keep it in place with a little bedding compound, some cotton, and caulking. Don't over think it. It's a boat, not a piano.
