KATHMANDU (AFP) A team of Japanese adventurers say they have discovered footprints they believe were made by the legendary yeti said to roam the Himalayan regions of Nepal and Tibet.
"The footprints were about 20 centimetres (eight inches) long and looked like a human's," Yo****eru Takahashi, the leader of the Yeti Project Japan, told AFP in Kathmandu on Monday.
Takahashi was speaking after he returned with his seven-member team from their third attempt to track down the half-man-half-ape, tales of which have gripped the imaginations of Western adventurers and mountaineers for decades.
Despite spending 42 days on Dhaulagiri IV -- a 7,661-metre (25,135-foot) peak where they say they have seen traces of yetis in the past -- the team failed in their prime objective of capturing one on film.
But Takahashi said the footprints were proof enough.
"Myself and other team members have been coming to the Himalayas for years and we can recognise bear, deer, wolf and snow leopard prints and it was none of those," he said.
"We remain convinced it is real. The footprints and the stories the local tell make us sure that it is not imaginary," he added.

I used to think there was no way there was a yeti. With our modern technology we would surely have found them by now. After all they can read a license plate or see your heat signature from satellite.

Then Bin Laden came along.
Now i believe there could be a yeti and we wouldnt be able to find it.

We'll have a better chance under the Obama administration.

The old man of the mountains. It's difficult to believe, but when you realize how vast the stretches of forest humans don't typically visit it's not implausible. There have been footprints cast and bits of hair collected that point to some unknown hominid out there. Plenty of hoaxers and publicity seekers, too.

I've gotta think that somewhere along the line someone would have shot one and produced a body. But, another theory is that they are natural psychics who can avoid such a trap because they see the happenings before they happen.

Don't know. An intriguing mystery.

P.S. I hope it's true. The natural man without our silly trappings. Native cultures, all across the globe, report him.

Either that or Bin Laden is in Nepal. Not sure which.

I think they're real. And I think there is some sort of Sasquatch here in the northwest. Probably very few and very far between, and very very shy.

Like anybody, I really can't justify my reasoning. Seems like every so often you hear an interesting story about a sighting.

Also, it's a shame that we'll basically have to kill one to prove they exist. Or, more accurately, to prove that one once existed. (Be a shame to kill the last one, ya know.)

OK, picture on the left, maybe. Picture on the right, who're they kidding? Do we have well manicured metro-yetis hanging out, out there? Maybe they've been waxed and look like Denis Rodman.

it sure is a fake looking print. But as we all know the Japanese never lie.
