Heard on the news and hope someone better internet or TV connected can get a picture:

Guy in Wisconsin carved his hyperthyroid pumpkin into a boat and is now doing a 100 mile charity paddle.

Not in Wisconsin, Ian, but up here in Howard Dill country the town of Windsor NS has an annual Pumpkin Regatta. http://worldsbiggestpumpkins.com/

Looks like the person paddling the pumpkin boat is the ballast. :)
