By the way, that is with TWO reefs in the mainsail.
When those are shaken out the main is an absolutely massive area.
. . . and it is an absolute b^gger to haul the gaff - all 450lbs plus weight of sail - the rest of the way (about 15'0"more) up the mast. . . by hand, not winching.
Only the last foot or so of the halyards (peak and throat) are winched!
looks like you need to wave the varnish brush at her.

looks like you need to wave the varnish brush at her. That is a very good demonstration of what the harsh unforgiving tropical sun does to varnish. Euphranes(sp) at that!
I think canvas covers may be forthcoming.
Rest easy. Kate is going to have a bit of maintenance work (including sanding and varnishing the brightwork) done in Dieppe Bay in the next couple of weeks - before the Golden Rock Regatta.
Who is Bruce?A good friend of mine, who often sails as crew (as I do) on Kate.
Want to sail in the Golden Rock Regatta - Only cost you your airfare, some food and some drink(cheap here). Contact me. :)

I hope to be somewhere between Bermuda and Sint Maarten on those dates, but thank you anyway.

I hope to be somewhere between Bermuda and Sint Maarten on those dates, but thank you anyway. Which way are you heading?
Which ever way you are heading, I hope you have fair winds and smooth seas.
