My son Matthew paddling and fishing in the Atlantic Ocean

Another lesson learned about Μοναξιά... she won't handle even the smallest breakers! :D

Going out or coming in.
Just drifting around. Didn't go out much further than that.

I guess you were kidding about the breakers I was thinking about my own experiences getting rolled as I made the beach in light, almost no surf. Catch any fish?

I didn't catch a thing, but never seriously fished. My brother in law and nephew caught some nice blues and my son caught a 5 -7 lb spanish.
And no, I wasn't kidding about the surf. My first time out I tried paddling all the way in through those itty bitty breakers and got tossed out of the boat! :D I warned my son not to try either, but did he listen?? :):)

Hum, Serves you right. :p Well you could have been trout fishing with better luck of staying dry like I did along the Atlantic Ocean too. ;)

So where were you at the beach? Those waves look a little small for the Outer Banks by my memory. Looks more like the bath tub we have down here in Savannah. Pretty day, looks like a lot of fun.
Cheers,
Bobby

So where were you at the beach?
Cherry Grove (Nth Myrtle Beach), early AM. 'Bout like a lake that time of day. Got too rough for the boat by early afternoon. "
Phil, Make one of these:

I've thought about something like that more than once, Fred, except making it more like a tiny pontoon boat.

I don't use extra flotation paddling in my river, but going out in the ocean I tie-wrapped fun noodles under the inwales of the boat. Worked well.

Well Phil , I'm glad you did it first. So much for taking a pirogue out in a ocean, after all it was designed for nice calm back creeks and bayou country.;)

Aw, JD... early morning, calm seas - it's heavenly. Just hop out before you get in the breakers! And it's a great conversation starter with gals that otherwise wouldn't talk to me! :D:D
BTW, you were gonna tell me about your method of getting in and out of that boat...

Phil,
I wheel the stern of the boat down the beach to the waters edge , launching ramp etc via the wheels I all ready posted pic’s of. The wheels are clamped to the stern of the boat. I take off the wheels and put them back in the truck. Now I load all my gear I want to take paddles etc in the stern. From the waters edge I pick the stern up some and drag as much of it I can into the water. By now much of the stern is afloat but not the bow which is now on the waters edge. Then I board the boat at the bow and kneel down on the seating area facing aft. Then I grab the gunwales on both sides and shift as much of my weight aft. Now by rocking back and forth the bow comes off the beach and into the water. When I feel the boat afloat I carefully turn over and seat in the boat facing the bow and back off via the paddles .
I hope this is clear. With this method I keep my feet dry good for winter pirogueing.
Good luck and keep dry.;)

Phil, I have another launching idea I'm working on. I use a round fender about 6" dia with a 14' lanyard attached.
When launching I place it under the keel at the bow athwart ships. Then roll the boat on the fender down into the water. Usually it allows me to get in before the fender emerges off the fender. Once in and afloat I back away and with the attached fender lanyard retrieve it aboard.
It also works some what when taking the boat out of the water,
saving the bottom from getting scratched.
