started removing bronze screws from white oak garboards this afternoon.
having to drill out bungs with forsner bit.
they seem to be glued or epoxied in tight.
screws seem to be in pretty good shape.
screws going in oak keel are very dificult to remove, still holding tight, but screws going into oak frames are easy to remove almost like they are a little loose. I am wandering if I should refasten below waterline to tighten things up.any advise would be appreciated. I am removing garboards to get a better look at things before I do anything else http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid43/p5de7c961e5a02898185eab6b505a8865/fce9f732.jpg

things are looking pretty good
no rot! just a lot of oily grime under engine bed area. notice the bronze chain run thru limber holes. it was attached loose so it could be pulled back and forth to clean out drainage holes that were inaccessable under engine (i guess)
a couple of floors are cracked but bolts are solid

Looks like you are into the nitty gritty and quick at that! Where are you located in NC?

Those screws look in good condition compared to most that I've yanked. Try replacing with pherson screws. I didn't see any signs of electrolic damage (break down) to the white oak celulois fibers, just the comman oil soaked "bilge black". Could be lots worse!
