In his books, R. Parker advocates using epoxy paints (Specifically Sherwin Williams Tile Clad II) on bottoms, bilges and interiors.

He also used SW Polene Polyurethane on topsides and decks, as the Tile Clad would chalk if left exposed to the sun.

These paints do not now appear in SW industrial catalogs. They offer a Tile Clad Epoxy, but how would one tell of Tile Clad is the same as Tile Clad II?

When I talked to my local outlet....they did some checking and told me flat out these paints would not work on glassed over plywood.

Has anybody used these paints, or do you know what R.Parker is suggesting to use now?

I'm not familiar with SW epoxy paints but the one I use can be found at Glidden or Devoe paint stores (both owned by ICI now). I've used it on boats for over 12 years and find it to be economical and an extremely tough paint. Like all epoxy paints, it does chalk a bit in exposed locations. I use it on decks and cockpit soles that get a lot of wear and where I don't want a gloss finish anyway. This is the paint that is used on bridges and water tanks but it works just fine on wood or glass over wood. I generally roll it with a short knap roller to get a slightly pebbly finish that hides a lot of sins on a work boat but I have also sprayed it.

The data sheet is below, or google Devoe epoxy.
