Can anyone tell me how to operate a Taylor alcohol stove? I'm completely ignorant about how to use it and can't find any info on the web. It's from the early 70s and is pressurized. Thanks for all help.

If it's a Taylor's stove, British made, it runs on kerosene, not alcohol.

DO NOT PUT ALCOHOL IN THE TANK!

Does it look like one of these:

There are stoves which look like kerosene stoves and are designed to run on alcohol...

There are stoves which with adjustments to fuel jets and air restrictors - are capable of using both fuels (one at a time)...

That's ok, it's temporary and you can soon learn.

Go HERE (http://www.spiritburner.com/fusion/index.php) - and ask nicely - it's best if you can have some fairly detailed pictures.

Looked at the Taylor website: nice-looking stoves.

One possible source of confusion might be that the paraffin/kerosene burners are preheated with methylated spirit/alcohol. So (as I read it) there are tanks for both types of fuel. But it's rather important to avoid putting the wrong sort of fuel in the wrong tank. No doubt there are warnings to that effect on the cooker.

I have the Taylor instruction book for the parafin stove. I could scan the relevant pages if you can't find what you're looking for online.

This is the sort of thing which can, all to easily, turn into a morass of misinformation.

Why do you use the word "alcohol"?

The reason I ask is that it is possible to configure almost any silent burner to use alcohol in place of kerosene and these modifications are easily reversed - there are also alcohol specific burners (such as the Optimus 209N)

The classic taylor stoves use a silent regulated burner which is usually fed kerosene/paraffin - BUT the burners could have been swapped or re-jetted..

If you are in a position to measure the jet diameter I can give a better guess...

I've made a mistake. The Taylor I have, which is out of the H-28 is kerosene. The one out of the Westerly is a Homestrand-Kenyon model 126, which is alcohol. Sorry for the confusion.

The Taylor's is worthless. Send it to me and I will arrange disposal of it for you at modest cost. ;)
