My BB 14 was damaged last season when the club tug hit it at the dock, damaging the transom. The boat builder in the yard looked at the mast and noticed an improperly scarfed in replacement plank (3-1 not 12-1) which was about to give way. The yard submitted the mast work to the insurance company, on a `what the heck' theory.
The insurance company denied that aspect of the claim as unrelated to the accident. The yard submitted to the insurance company an estimated cost of the repair of $3,900 for scarfing in a 3/4 x 3 x 10' sitka spruce plank and all related work.
It is time for me to discuss the repair cost with the yard. The mast is a 21' hollow box construction. I am completely satisfied with the work, but shocked by the estimate submitted to the insurance company, and would appreciate any advice on what a fair price would be.
Thanks.
