I've just been given an abandoned boat which the giver claims is an International Star. She is 18' long and seems small for one. Someone suggested she might be an Inter Comet...? She has a keel which is unfastened and she seems to be in good shape. She is very dry having been in a garage for many years. I'm thinking I might do well to soak her before caulking, but I'm not sure. I am also debating how to restore it. Looking at it today I could feel my blood pumping and I wanted to restore her completly perfectly. But theres another side of me that would like to just jam her full of 5200 and get on the water... Any ideas concerning types of restoration, whether I might resell her after a few years, or info on builders of these boats would be welcome.

Stars are around 22' long, have a cast iron fin keel with a bulb on the bottom and a big elephant ear for a rudder. All the wooden Stars that I have seen were built with glued, overlapped seams between the planks, rather than calking. If it's only 18' long, it isn't a Star.

She needs to be longer to be a Star. With 800 lbs of bulbed keel. Does your boat have a large circular jib track? What is the Class symbol on the sail? A comet, a star or other?

The Star has a small cockpit the Comet's is large.

The Comet Trio is the longer version of the Comet. The Comet Duo is also a longer version of the Comet but not as long as the Trio  . The basic Comet is jibless.

Wild Wassa, my Comet has a jib and so do the other 4000 or so of them.

Dale, I stand corrected. It's the Comet Mino (a solo Comet) that doesn't have a jib. That makes 4 Comets.
