Does anyone know if that fine designer Alan Buchanan is still around. Believe he used to be in Jersey, Channel Islands?
I've one of his designs, a Clyde Cruiser, 27 ft but don't know much of its history. She was built in Burnham on Crouch in '56 but i'm not even sure at whose yard.
Any one else have one??? Mine is Gaff-rigged and I wonder if that was a bit of a "one-off" design as the only plan I have shows Bermudan rig?

.
The last contact details I have for AB are --
La Ville Au Bas
St.Lawrence
Jersey
Channel Islands, UK
Tel: 001144 15348 65536, Fax: 001144 15348 64698
and when I last heard of him he was still designing as a hobby, well into his nineties.
I own one of his three-tonners, and the design for her shows alternative gaff and masthead rigs. So it seems to me quite possible that alternative sail plans were also provided for your Clyde Cruiser. But I have no direct knowledge either way.

I wrote to him,I believe it was the address that Mike provided above, about two years ago.I was inquiring about a boat for sale in Newfoundland, built by Walter Pinauld(?) in Cape Breton supposed to be a Buchanan design.I received a reply and although he couldn't identify the boat as his design he did provide me with some clippings of similar models.Like Mike said he is getting along in years.Worth a try though.

My letter came back, opened by (I assume the Post Office) to say "no such address". Actually, I can't remember the EXACT wording; the upshot was that I didn't get through to Mr Buchanan.
Hope he's still alive and well

Try the "Buchanan owners club" site. I think Alan himself is living in retirement in Jersey.
I had his Spartan 23 ft sloop built for me at Burnham-on-Crouch in 1959.

I have a 28 Buchanan, built in 94. She is Kauri & Kwila.
She turns heads wherever we go, the best boat for East Coast of NZ. She will be up for sale later this year if anyone is interested i can post pictures.
She is a world circumnavigator boat, absolutely solid, and young.
