Actually, the Compass Project is.

From their site:
"The Compass Project is an experiential program that teaches job training and life skills through boat-building and rowing. Through hands-on programs, participants find new directions in work and in life.
The Compass Project serves youth in Greater Portland schools drawn from a group of 2500 youth identified as at-risk. Since 2002, more than 600 youth from Greater Portland middle and high schools have benefited from Compass Project programs which teachers, school social workers and principals cite for their effectiveness in helping disadvantaged and underserved youth."

Now that you know the who and what, the CP is looking for all manner of volunteers- boatbuilders/shop help, people to work with groups, administrative help, etc... If you have a skill and are willing to put it to use for a good cause, please contact them. Contact info is at www.compassproject.org (http://www.compassproject.org) .

In the interests of full disclosure, I am a volunteer boatbuilder there.

Our volunteers get a lot of training in boatbuilding and get to work with kids building boats, a very gratifying project, but not without challenges...come check us out! Our volunteer force is about 25 strong; there are fascinating people to meet and some have become good friends.

Best,
Clint
