I'm a newby to the site and to wooden boat building as well, other than a cedar strip Tandem sea kayak. Has anyone out there built the Tug yacht Pouch? The plans are available free from Mal Low. I was wondering how difficult the lofting process is and how well the boat handles in heavy seas.

I've always liked Mal's designs and Pouch is a beauty.

She's a single-chine, flat bottom boat, and I would think you'd have to be careful to keep the superstructure as light as possible. Initial stability will be high, and Mal has designed a lot of working tugs in his career, so I would think she would be a fine little boat for inshore and protected waters.
His plans are, well ... let's say spare. Lofting would be easy because, after all, it's a single chine hull. But IMO, not a great choice for someone who needs a lot of hand-holding or detailed explanations of everything. Mal is retired now, so you're pretty much on your own.
