All OK at the boatyard hauled about 50 boats, crew pretty exhausted. On the home front 3 acres of debris to clean up branch tips, pine cones, hickory nuts, gum balls, etc. Short power outage looking forward to a day off today.

Great to hear that you made out about the best as could even though the power seems to always be an issue. I got all my cleanup done for now and will deal with the split tree this week. But for now we will be sailing today. Wana go on a poormans boat today?? We have lunch prepared for a beaching and shelling trip for the ladies too.
Glad to hear you are O.K. thanks for keeping us updated

Power went out about 0300. Started generator about 0800. Ran it until power came back about noon. Yard covered with leaves and small branches. A very minor event. Liked the 1.5" of rain.

Just got home from Oriental. Whampoa came through with no damage. I didn't see any significant damage in and around Oriental.
Good to see a lot of folks down preparing their boats and helping each other get ready.
The storm moved further inland than thought and although it was pretty breezy in Oriental, we didnt see any major water rise and or related flooding. Most of the rain stayed on the NW side of the storm.
I took the sails off in anticipation of a more direct hit and then a followup from Ike. While I have them off, I have taken the booms home to wood them and refinish them. Hopfully Ike will continue west and leave NC alone.
I hope others up along the coast faired as well as Hanna swept NE.
Regards, John

We lost power for 14 hours. A transformer blew sending a diesel smelling oil all over the back of the yard. Anybody know how bad/toxic this stuff is?

My boat's bilge has never been as full as after Saturday night's Hanna-remnant rainfall. It was half way up my shins!
Andrew, depending on the age of the transformer it may well contain some really nasty stuff. Don't let the kids/pets play near it and have your local power utility come to clean it up. Try not to let any of it contact bare skin.
