View Full Version : My wedding!

This is boat-related?

My abstinence from this board was not because of the deranged minds that so often post absolute nonsense here and continuously start fighting among each other...
No the main reason is that I had a bit too much to do. Apart from job and Museumharbour (which actually is a fulltime job on its own) I had to organise my wedding, which was also a bit of a job.

It was always my wish to marry onboard ever since I was invited to the maritime wedding of friends of mine on their 1886 Smack Yacht WILLOW WREN.
Of course I (well we! - I have to get used to that) chose the same registrar, a keen yachtswoman herself.
As my little boat could not contain the 40 odd friends and familymembers, we asked my fellow museumharbour boardmember Joachim, if we can use his 1910 built 2 mast herring-logger for the wedding and to sleep on.

So on saturday morning at 10:30 we sailed out of Flensburg harbour (the place to marry was a bit out of the Bay, because we had to marry in a different community) on the RYVAR. Unfortunately it was raining hard, but funnily nobody really cared.

When everyone settled down and had a cup of hot coffee in hand we actually had a great time, although I had to put on the beige coat above my wedding "outfit".

We passed the Ox-islands sailing out of the Bay. After the wedding we were to return to the big Ox-island (Storre Okseø) for the party.

2 days before the wedding/party/honeymoon I managed to get SIONNACHAN back in the water, after working on her since winter (applying coelan against my leaking deck*).

Everybody told me that she will probably take a couple of weeks to get tight again, but it actually only took 2 days and Doris and I were able to sleep dry on her on our wedding night.

* more about that in another thread

In case anybody wonders what We/I did during honeymoon.

After the coelan work was done and the boat in the water I turned to rigging, because I took away one of the chainplates each side (they were just bolted through the planks anyway) and changed to wire shrouds which had to be "dressed", tarred and rigged.

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii188/sionnachan/sionnachan/bekleden-3.jpg

I did make some mistakes with the rigging.
Find the fault!

The last day on our "honeymoon" I finally stepped the mast.

Congratulations. I have to say its very tempting to say something like.....

... you can't say that in a wedding thread!

But I'll resist.

Great photos. Enjoy.

where can I get a jacket like that?

Well its a fishermen jacket from Brittany actually. Usually they have them in navy-blue, but I was able to get this one in beige.

congratulations to you both! The other thing you might need to get used to is paying as close attention to your wife as you do to your boat (especially on your honeymoon). Best wishes!

While I made up my mind eons ago that marriage was not for me, I am not stupid enough to believe that I'm totally immune. I do have one hard and fast rule, however. If I am ever coaxed down the aisle, that aisle will be on a boat.

Beautiful ceremony, beautiful wife, beautiful environment. You have memories that you can cherish forever.

Congrats!

Thanks to all of you for your nice congratulations and greetings.

Doris was touched, even though she usually regards the time I spent posting stuff here as absolutely dispensible.
