View Full Version : Grounding wire?

Hi All,

I'm putting together some of the main wiring for my runabout.

Should all of the metal items (strut, rudder mount, water intake, shaftlog, etc..) be wired together?

The boat will be a trailered fresh water craft. I suppose some day in the distant future it could end up spending a season in the water, but it should never end up in salt water.

Thanks,
Bob

In the water where the boat may(!) spend a summer attach a silver dime to one lead of a digital volt meter and a small piece of zinc to the other lead and drop both leads in the water. If the voltage is in the small millivolt range then bonding is no necessary.

I'm a professional runabout restorer....never seen a runabout with bonding.

And congratulations on your boat! Nice job!

Terrific slide show! Maybe best I've seen. Shows most every stage. Like the boat is being built before you.

Thanks everyone. Ask a question and do less work, yay!

I didn't want to run that wire anyway!

pcf, thanks.

Ted - Sent a reply - not sure how I missed it..
