Anyone use this epoxy yet?
On a cedarstrip canoe?

I was given several sample kits from the dealer in Vancouver. He gave me a few different hardeners and some info on the new products. My understanding is that the Silver Tip line is designed so that there is no guesswork in determining which hardener to use, how much, how much thickening agent, etc. It is all done for you with the various products. As for clear coating on a cedar strip canoe or kayak, I believe (others feel free to correct me) that the old clear coat epoxy and hardener by S3 is still the one to choose for that purpose. What I did like about the product is that is a very low viscosity epoxy, so it should be great for wetting out glass. I did ask him how many fill coats it would take to fill a 6 oz weave, since I was interested to find out whether the lower price (lower than West System which we currently use)will be negated by having to use more to fill a weave. I hope to try the samples out soon.

For a cedarstrip canoe, the "clearcoat" formula is the choice. It's what I used on mine a few years ago.
Their silvertip product has lower viscosity than their basic resin, but the clearcoat is lower still.

I've got the silvertip sample kit on order to see how it behaves, but have also had good results with the Sys 3 clearcoat for wetting out the glass. I then used Sys 3 SB-112 for fill in coats since it is much thicker, cures faster, and has some UV protection built in.
My canoe is here (http://www.home.earthlink.net/~durgerian/) .
